Terms of Service
Last updated: May 12, 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Grover platform, operated by Grover ("we," "us," or "our"), a business based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. By accessing or using Grover, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
Grover is currently in beta. Additional beta-specific terms may apply if you have signed a separate beta access agreement with us. Where a conflict exists between these Terms and a beta agreement, the beta agreement governs.
1. The service
Grover provides access to an interactive platform for exploring Canadian building permit data. During the beta period, the service covers permit data for Calgary, Alberta, sourced from the City of Calgary Open Data portal under the Open Government Licence – City of Calgary.
We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the service — or any part of it — at any time, with or without notice. We are not liable to you or any third party for any such modification, suspension, or discontinuation.
2. Beta disclaimer
The platform is provided in beta form and is under active development. By using Grover, you acknowledge and accept that:
- The service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
- The beta may contain bugs, errors, or incomplete features and may be interrupted, changed, or terminated without notice.
- Data displayed may be incomplete, delayed, or inaccurate. Do not rely on it as the sole basis for business decisions without independent verification.
- Your data may be deleted at the end of the beta period. We recommend maintaining your own records of any information you export.
3. Acceptable use
You may use Grover for lawful internal business purposes only. You agree not to:
- Resell, sublicense, or redistribute access to the platform or its data
- Scrape, systematically download, or attempt to replicate the underlying dataset outside of the export features we provide
- Use the service for any unlawful purpose, or in any way that violates applicable federal, provincial, or local laws
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the service or its underlying infrastructure
- Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the platform
4. Accounts
Access to Grover requires a verified email address. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account and for all activity that occurs under it. Notify us immediately at support@groverdata.ca if you suspect unauthorized use of your account.
During beta, accounts are by invitation only. We may revoke access at any time at our discretion.
5. Feedback
If you provide feedback, suggestions, or ideas about Grover ("Feedback"), you grant us a perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free, worldwide licence to use that Feedback for any purpose, including improving the service or developing new features, without any obligation to compensate you.
6. Intellectual property
Grover and all content, features, and functionality of the platform — including but not limited to software, design, text, and trademarks — are owned by us and protected by applicable intellectual property laws.
The building permit data displayed through the platform is sourced from the City of Calgary Open Data portal and is licensed under the Open Government Licence – City of Calgary. We do not claim ownership of that data.
Nothing in these Terms grants you any rights to our intellectual property other than the limited right to use the service in accordance with these Terms.
7. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Grover and its owners, employees, and contractors will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or relating to your use of — or inability to use — the service, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.
Our total liability to you for any claim arising out of or relating to these Terms or the service will not exceed one hundred Canadian dollars (CAD $100).
Nothing in these Terms limits our liability for gross negligence, wilful misconduct, fraud, or any other liability that cannot be excluded under Alberta law.
8. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to Grover at any time and for any reason, including if we believe you have violated these Terms. You may stop using the service at any time.
Upon termination, your right to access the service ceases immediately. Sections of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination (including Sections 5, 6, 7, and 9) will do so.
9. Governing law
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Province of Alberta and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising under these Terms will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Alberta.
10. Privacy
Your use of Grover is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference. By using the service, you consent to the collection and use of your information as described in that policy.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify registered users by email before the changes take effect. Your continued use of the service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
